P-035 Effect of Varicocelectomy on normal semen in patients undergoing the procedure for indications other than fertility: evidence needed for counseling

Abstract Study question Does microsurgical varicocelectomy impact normal semen parameters in fertile patients undergoing the procedure for indications other than infertility? Summary answer Micro surgical does not alter fertility potential of men with semen. What is known already Varicocele repair results improvement and sub clinical varicocele. However, also offered to infertility including testicular pain, size affection, or before army recruitment. Queries about effect on this patient population have been raised but unfortunately strongly backed by literature. design, size, duration A retrospective study 1521 who underwent inguinal our center from 2011–2021. Participants/materials, setting, methods total 435 were included. Exclusion criteria infertility, abnormal parameters, prior varicocelectomy. Patient demographics, laboratory data collected. Semen analysis (WHO 5th edition), sperm DNA fragmentation (Halosperm) & hormonal assay performed pre-operative up 6 months post-operative. Data compared using Wilcoxon Signed Ranked Test. p value <0.05 was considered significant. Main role chance The mean age 32.8±7.7 years. Varicocelectomy left side 373 bilateral 62 patients. majority had grade III varicocele side. There no statistically significant changes volume, concentration, progressive motility, fragmentation, profile after post comparison initial baseline (table 1). Only a morphology observed. Limitations, reasons caution main limitation design study. Long-term conception rate evaluated. Wider implications findings Results work are beneficial during preoperative counseling non-fertility indications. Patients can be reassured that would affect their potentials negatively.
